The January 8th BCS Championship game is now set. The game features #1 Ohio State vs. SEC Champion Florida with starting QB's Chris Leak and Heisman hopeful Troy Smith leading the way..
Two weeks after beating rival Michigan, top-ranked Ohio State (12-0) finally found out they will face Florida in the national championship game. The Gators (12-1) with their 38-28 win over Arkansas in the SEC Championship game and USC losing to UCLA 13-9, jumped over Michigan to climb into the No. 2 spot behind the Buckeyes. The game will be the first meeting between Ohio State and Florida. The Buckeyes, who will have to endure a 80-day plus wait from their last regular-season game will be chasing their second national title in the last five years.
The match up will feature two of the best Senior QB's in the country, Troy Smith and Chris Leak. Both would like to follow in the steps of last year's National Championship QB Vince Young (467 total yards, 3 TD’s), who played the game of his college career leading Texas to a 41-38 Rose Bowl victory. Smith (2507 yards, 30 TD’s) is now the leader in the clubhouse for the Heisman after Leak (2729 yards, 22 TD's) entered the season as a Heisman contender, but ended up sharing the qb job with freshman sensation Tim Tebow. Leak and Smith started at different paths at the beginning of their college careers. Leak was a heralded national recruit in 2002 that started from Day 1 at Florida, while Smith was the last player signed by Ohio State in 2001 and was redshirted his first season. However they both will have the opportunity to end their college careers with a National Championship victory joining Charlie Ward, Tommie Frazier, and others.
